Nervous system: Spinal cord

Slide: Spinal cord section HE 2-21

Microscope at 40X

The top image of spinal cord at 40X shows the butterfly-shaped gray matter surrounded by white matter.

dh = dorsal horn gray matter

vh = ventral horn gray matter

cc = central canal

The middle image at 400X shows gray matter of the ventral horn and adjacent white matter.

ncb = neuron cell body (probably somatic motor neuron)

cap = capillary

ma = myelinated axon cross section

The lower image at 400X shows the area around the central canal cc. Ependymal cells ep line the central canal.
